My visit to Cairo included the many Pyramids of Giza, prior to enjoying an 8 day Nile River cruise with interesting stops along the way
A local snake charmer from a safe distance
The Melodie will be our home for now while we make our way south
Meals on board were hearty and showcased Middle Eastern cuisine.
English speaking guides shared the history of this ancient land. This guide kindly spelt out my name in hieroglyphics ..... handy
The scale of the monuments does take your breath away.
Horse-drawn carriage to lunch....
Egyptian cuisine at its best
An early morning start for a thrilling hot air balloon journey over the Nile
Viewing an ancient temple entrance from a height
Now it's out of the balloon and on to a friendly donkey for the steep climb to the Valley of the Kings
Then a cooling Nile River sail on an iconic Felucca.
Samosas, stuffed grape leaves and falafel with yoghurt dip.
Refreshing beverages in a relaxed Egyptian tent with origins dating back to the Ottoman Empire.
Another very early morning for a guarded coach journey to the Aswan Dam and relocated Abu Simbel Temple.
Our meal on the coach was rather delicious as well as practical. The Aswan Dam is located close to the southern border of Egypt with Sudan hence the guarded journey.
A sunset camel ride completed our activities prior to a return train journey to Cairo
In Cairo I met a local travel agent who invited me on an evening river cruise during Ramadan.
The entertainment was a very energetic Whirling Dervish
The smorgasbord was so delicious for those of us who were able to enjoy.
